Shutter Door Removal

This is the doorway that leads from the kitchen to the hallway, and those are the very dated shutter style doors it is currently equipped with.  Here is another angle:
It should also be pointed out there is a light switch behind the door on the left.  Good planning.
Chrissy and I don't feel a door is really necessary here, especially not these doors, so I removed them.

It now seems a little plain, but I think it's better.  I am still trying to decide if I like it.

Any thoughts from the readers on how to handle this doorway?

    1. Damn it. I deleted my comment. Let me repeat: It doesn't look plain it looks minimal, which I consider a good thing. Plus I think the more open, the better as a general rule of thumb. Once you get your pictures hung and your furniture in there it will look very lively and will have a "clean finish" type of feel. Good call on the shutter removal!

  2. Im missing a couple doors in my house too; a kitchen to hallway one as matter of fact. I agree its unnecessary and does look better with out. Shutter-style doors require dusting and I think that kind of dusting (in between slats) is lame. Personally, the only thing I would do to this doorway is replace the light switch cover(s) to plain white so they blend in better with the wall. Even if you are going to repaint with a color (any color), I love white baseboards, crown molding and trim against a color. It makes the color pop and looks very crisp and clean. All in all, I agree with Andrea. When the area/house fills, you'll be glad you are minus some doors :)
